one of the kind volume control

I know different kind of volume control will have different sound quality, to me the best sounding one is steps with resisters, hand switch, not by remote. but different switch still come up with different sound quality, well known as Shallco, Elma etc:- after I found some glass tube mercury switches in the surplus shop, an idea came to my mind, maybe the wet contact of mercury will better than those mechanically touch switch, no oxide no dirt, perfect touch, but you can see in the picture my pre amp can only have nine switches, (space limit and parts limit they from surplus not too many that I can get), so I made the center one as 12 o'clock 4 steps up and 4 steps down in 2 db each, this range can control most of the in-put for my pre amp
result wonderful when switching up it is not only the sound going loud is feel the sound stage come close to me, also in turning down same thing happen sound stage feel getting away
