If you're soldering copper, a 63/37 eutectic will work perfectly. For silver, a 2% silver solder, ditto. And you can have the satisfaction of knowing that you spent that extra money on something useful, like CDs or hookers.

Hi SY
thanks for the input

There is an article on the Sonic Craft website which details how George Cardas came about inventing the Quad Eutectic compound.
It all stems from an early realization by Bell Labs when they were resoldering all of the phone system joints ever YEAR to maintain integrity. George decided to mix his own eutectic solution which liquifies and hardens as one element instead of the individual compounds hardening at a different rate.
Bell found that using the eutectic eleminated resoldering of the joints. George also swears that it has better sonic characteristics.
Anyway I decided to order some of this yesterday to see how it compares.
Sonic Crafts price of 44.00 per pound is the cheapest price I have found. They also sell in 6.00 increments for those who just wish to try it out. They also sell a Tri Eutectic mix.

AndrewT, Ours should be here this week.
