I'm trying to make a clone of a Martin Audio mic preamp, model 134MA.
There are 4 transistors in this circuit: 3 x 2N3565 (= 2N2222) and 1 x 2N508A. I found the NTE102 as a replacement for 2N508A but it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions? |

These are Germanium transistors if I recall correctly. Even though the NTEs are new parts, they can still be just as finicky as vintage Ge transistors. Did you measure the NTE before you tried it? Did you try more than one of the NTEs? It may simply be a faulty part. I have seen wild variations in gains on these NTEs.
