Its why you need lead in your pencil!

Well solder.

But the same people who go on about saving the environment have put soldering temperatures up by approx 30 deg, so we use more energy, cutting off ones nose to spite ones face comes to mind.

Edit: When you look into it, it isn't as bad as it may seem (NPL defects site is one source), there are ways of mitigating the effects. iNEMI have some good guidelines. The problem today if you can manufacture using leaded processes is sourcing leaded components. Your always having to have your BGAs' reballed
