Hello
I am building a guitar amp for my son, and I am almost done on the design front. I will have something like 7-10 PCBs, all with corner mounting holes. I was thinking I will need a box to put everything in, it will be out of sight, only a front panel will show, but I could have a metal plate to be the front panel, even if the box behind it is made of wood, because you will not be able to see anything other than the front. Ouside of building a box out of wood, which I can do easily, is there another way ? The enclosure needs to be approx 22" across, and maybe 4" height, and maybe 11" depth. I was thinking of a metal box but even if I find it, it would need to have one side unobstructed (no mounting screws or other structural parts) so I could place the front panel. With a metal box, I am not sure how to mount the PCBs - I could perhaps place a 6mm plywood piece at the bottom and screw on that wood, but is there another way to mount the PCBs? Thanks |

If I were to build a guitar amp, I'd make a wood box, with metal corners and countersunk handles.
It would turn out both stronger and lighter that way....perhaps also cheaper and aesier. Magura

Hi,
I am not after a box to house the whole amplifier, which I will make out of plywood in all likeness, but just an inner box to house the electronics alone. Thanks |

Just use the wooden box as your enclosure with a metal faceplate , Just be sure to use shieled cables for audio signals and what I do sometimes for aditional shielding is use aluminum screen material to cover the inside of the box and ground it .....
Here is an guitar head I built a while back with wood and a metal face plate , not pretty but very functional .... ![]() Cheers |
