Default Mystery Component

This is from a tube based power supply and feeds the cathode of a 6H30 from the positive rail. It says 583 KS on it. Is it a 58v zener?

are you referring to the device with the translucent case?

What voltage is across it?

Sorry, for the confusion. Yes it is the translucent device. I was not able to measure the voltage across it.

More details? Or at least a larger pic? Is it an ARC component?

Yes this a Ref 3. I got a chance to take a careful look at a friends and want to see if I can clone it. I'll see if I can put up a better picture.

It's about the only ARC pre worth cloning IMO. A very quick preliminary question what does it use for volume?

Tube Dude, thanks. I just did not think of polystyrene as a possibility. Do I need to use a polystyrene there? Or can I use something else?

The volume is controlled by chip resistors just like all ARC's over the last couple of years.

Is better to stay with polystyrene, because de low losses and precision.

Why you think the capacitor is to blame?

They usually stand for a life time...
