I have a question about mounting output transistors on a heatsink. First of all, is aluminum a good choice or is there a better material? Also, for TIP31/32 transistors, the collector is the metal part that will be mounted to the heat sink. Could this create a problem? The collectors for the TIP 31's should be at a different voltage than that of the TIP32's.
Thanks |

For this reason good people invented insulating heatpads. Have fun, Hannes

Oh ok thanks. That actually makes me wonder, why is that metal part used for mounting attached to the collector? There is already a pin for it.

Because the power (heat) is dissipated in the collector of the transistor. In order transport the heat away from the silicon, the collector is connected directly to the collector.

Don't forget the insulation ring between screw and case.

and use a Multimeter to make sure the Transistors are actully isolated from the heatsink .....
