I have built a pre amp switcher using a 3P1T switch. I switched the commons together and the R and L separate. Because the signals from the pre amps are going straight to the poweramp I'm experiencing some "poping" at the moment the switch is thrown. I tried placing 100K resistors to ground on the inputs, inputs and outputs, and just the outputs with no luck.
I used a sealed switch. Do I have to have a make before break switch for this to work?? Where would I source one if I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I don't switch the grounds and all the grounds on the RCA inputs and outputs are tied together for my preamps. Then I run only 1 ground wire from the RCA connections to the pot or active stage.
Usually I only use a 2 pole break before make and have no noise issues.

Nice work!! I switched the grounds because I was concerned about getting ground loops if either of the outboard preamps are plugged into different outlets.
Also, the signals are going directly into a power amp and not a pre amp. It worked great switching cd players and dvd players into a pre amp. I'm guessing lower gains on the pre didn't amplify the pops like the power amp did. |

I always think of the RCAs as sort of a star ground so it all goes back to 1 point. See how it goes.
