Another anti-Monster conspiracy?
My cables look as bright and shiny as the day i bought them 20 years ago. Mostly worked as power cords as they stank as speaker wires. Must be the cleaner air in the 3rd world - 10 years in Zim and ten in SA.

Come to think of it, I did see clear lamp cords doing that, but only after 20+ years (these lamps we had on the farm where I grew up).

Hi analog_sa,
It is not an anti-Monster conspiracy. Mine were the same as those presented by lgreen, and they had clear reddish parts in a few places too. At that time I got them for free with my speakers, so I am stil very satisfied of the 20+ years of use of those cables… Even if I have thrown them away a few monthes ago. IMO, paying for cables is a sad situation : you should not do that as long as you don't know what you get for your money. Regards, rephil |

Many years back in the eighties Monster had a bad batch. Customers could exchange their cable for free and the shop I worked got a huge pile of discolered cable in no time.

To lgreen: that's indeed oxide. The insulator must have gone (more) porous and allowed oxygen to reach the copper strands. |

The PVC does release chloride over time, especially if heated a bit.
When processing PVC, special stainless moulds and machinery is called for, anything else corrodes. Some types of PVC are worse in the respect than others, but it's hard to tell which type of PVC you have. Conclusion: Stay clear of PVC. Magura

The wires are doing their job, cleaning up the nasty signal from your amp - that black goo is from bad electrons...
Or maybe it is just accumulating the bad karma of the company.

The green color on the copper wire is ink from the money they sucked from your wallet
