Best sub in for a Thiel CS 3.6 D26AG-36 tweeter?
I had one of these get fried a while back. I sent it in and had it rebuilt since I was told they no longer stocked it.
It came back, but didn't sound much like the one in my other speaker. Recently it began sizzling, and it got worse over the past 3 weeks. With some music, it was not audible at high volumes, and with other stuff that seems to hit the right frequencies at the right time, it's audible at 80 dB.
The rebuild would probably cost more/be near impossible now that the cap itself has completely fell out of the tweeter.
I don't want to send it in for $150+ to get one that won't sound remotely like the one in my right speaker. I read 2 other posts on avsforum where people posted similar experiences, of female voices cracking sometimes with the new tweeter.
Does anyone here have a tweeter, or a source for it?
If not, can anyone suggest a drop in replacement? I really love these speakers, but the tweeter is slightly edgy compared to every other studio reference monitor & hi-fi speaker I use. I know that this has a lot to do with the source recording, but some stuff that is fine everywhere else is really edgy here, especially since I modified a new BB PCM1716 based DAC's slow & filtery sounding output stage. Something as detailed as the original with slightly less edge would be great.
I'm not on a budget, but not into spending $350/driver either. It's a 1" metal dome tweeter.
Thanks!
