Hi,
I have an iHome Lamp that comes with an ipod dock which can charge the ipod and play music through speakers inside the lamp base. I want to hack the lamp so that it can also sync the ipod with itunes. For this i already spliced an ipod cable and soldered the green and white wires to the #4 and #6 pins on the dock's ipod connector. However, this does not seem to work because the computer doesn't recognize the ipod. Should i solder the power cables (red, black) from the ipod cable to the dock? Im afraid that the electric current from the USB and the lamp's dock will not play well (?). Can anyone help ? Thanks, Dmitri |

Yuo have connected the data lines, but no Ground!
Assuming the black wire is ground, this should be connected, but not the +5V (red?) wire, which could causea "fight" between the power supplies |

there are 2 ground pins inside the 30 pin connector. you will need the usb and the ground. there are pinouts around on the internet. just make sure you don't short anything. I would try with a usb hub before plugging it directly into my computer and blow the mobo. good luck with soldering those pins, I hate them =( I did something similar a little while ago, but I modified an ipod dock to work with my creative sleek photo =)
