Default i need help!!! please

What happens when an amplifier's Gain control is broken? Is it suppose to make a loud screaching noise? I have an amplifier that has a broekn Gain volume knob and the amplifier won't play, it only plays a loud screaching noise. Please help! Thanks

Hi chipper - if you know electronics and how to solder what you most likely need to do is to replace the variable resistor (Potentiometer - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potentiometer ) that adjust the gain of the amp. Yeah - a broken pot could cause the amp to make loud screeching noises - but check your source material 1st - could just be what's playing.
