Need suggestions for gearing to control pot extension

I'm placing my selector pot and volume pot at the back of the pre-amp with DAC extension kits. I want to get the volume control where it is on the front panel which is on the far right.

I wonder if there's any kind of gearing or bendable cabling that will allow me to turn the volume knob which will make an L to the extender rod and control the pot?

I think I see what your idea is. That shouldn't be to hard. I was thinking of drilling a hole in the female end of the flex shaft so that you could put a set screw in, this would connect to a pot shaft or swithc shaft. Then use a piece of hollow tube, with two set screws to couple the tube to the shaft of your control knob to the flex shaft.
If you can give me a little more detail, I might be able to come up with a quick design that you can make at home, from parts you can get online.

Peace,

Dave

astouffer: interesting link. Thanks. You're in my hometown!

Dave. Let me draw something up so its clearer. Essentially I'll have two shafts. One short one going into the volume knob extending into the chassis a few inches.

Then the extender shaft in parallel but 6-7 inches away. I would need to tie the two so when I turn the volume knob its shaft turns that other shaft that connects to the volume pot.

Yup, that was what I was thinking. My thoughts were to mod the flex shaft and use it in place of a solid shaft and a gear and belt drive. I am going to guess that astouffer was thinking about two of the flex joints in the bottom right, with a shaft between. I would guess that either of the suggestions of astouffer or myself would work. Another possibility would be to check out these websites:

http://www.mcmaster.com/
http://www.sdp-si.com/
http://www.misumiusa.com/

If you can't find what you need from these three, than you are looking for something really wierd. I'm not sure of the support/sales from sdp-si or misumi to individuals, but I know that misumi is quick to businesses, and sdp-si makes a lot also. If you find it from McMaster-Carr, they usually ship by the next day.

Peace,

Dave

I didn't think about McMaster. Figures. I just got an order from them. I hate ordering because every time I hit the submit button an hour later I think of something else I really needed.

I'll check out the links. Thanks! The second one looks perfect. I'll call them on Monday. I let everyone know if I find the right bits.
