There is a thread going on that cables do they make difference is based primary on the question do you or do you not believe in cables as a chain that makes difference. I do. I do since the first audio equipment i had (rega kyte speakers, arcam 5+ amp and NAD 502 CD). When Audio Talk cables came in the orchestra widend and everything opened. No standard wire could do that then.
Last change I heard on my system (SKA GB150 amo and front horn with FE206 modified + DIY eminence sub fed up with PC signal-unfortunately still without proper DAC) it were some pair of silver cored teflon insulated interconnects. What they did was reducing the glare in mids and highs of fostex and introduce new level of bass reinforcement. I than purchased some of this wire and now asking the more experienced to help with the construction. I made an table of 4 options (one being solely a derivative from other one). I do not know how the glue of tape would "damage" the surface of the silver but in the end I could insulate the wires just with soft teflon tape and then stick them to another wider tape so that I keep the distance same. What do you think? I would not like to complicate to much. I like silver as to my ears was much more natural than copper and solid core always layered sound better than stranded ones. You could make greater difference in sound with changing to better loudspeakers... ![]() Thank you in advance! !! T |

Question, where did you buy the 3mm silver foil, and how thick is it?
I thought this 3mm silver foil was our idea, it was first written about in my "SuperCables CookBook, first published 10 years ago now... Regarding your question, IMO, none of the formats you present is the best, get he book and learn all the tricks. The glue is a very minor problem, the correct format is the solution, and the thickness of the foils is a VITAL consideration. Regards, Allen (Vacuum State) |

huh... I ordered them form a goldsmith (jewelry). I think the thickness is around 0,03mm. I didnīt know that there is so much to it...and I have so much problems with the source and amp and speakers...
I just wanted to deal once for all with that silver laying there. The idea is not mine of course. friend of mine has them also but he just wrapped them in teflon tape and left them hang randomly in space. I think that is not good idea as I read some stuff from John Risch and from TNT site some articles about ubyte and cat5 etc. cables... I see you have silver foil speaker cables changed to the using of copper foil ? Why is it? To me best configuration is to mix copper on some parts and silver on others. I never use just one wire. I do not know why but I have a leaning toward mixture of thing instead of using just one. best regards !! T |

The price of silver foil made to our special size requirements was getting so high, we tried copper foil. 95% of the result, for fraction of the price. No other reason. Regards, Allen (Vacuum State) |

I do not need "the best" solution but one good is enough, one that does these foils some good.
So I realy have to buy the book... I thought somebody will share some experiences with foils (silver, copper, gold, extrateresstrial...) ![]() I have time... !! T |

Then I'd spend some time reading, what Nelson Pass got out of testing speaker cables. Magura

I would be cautious drawing any conclusions based on the jeweler's silver. It is neither as pure, nor as polished or annealed as the one used in good cables. It may, quite possibly, sound inferior to copper. |

Yes that is really possible. Also does anyone have a firm opinion on foil/flat conductors VS round?I have rescently seen oval conductors too. |

Hi.
What the cable did (form my friend that used same silver) to my horns was that it removed all hardness from vocals and timbre of instruments became more natural. I always found copper sounding more vivid but golden or orange colored in sound (i sometimes hear things in color, maybe sounds strange but for me is a good discerning tool), when first time heard silver (QED Silver cables I think, years ago) it struck me with its naturalness in the same way as horns compared to ordinary speakers. I will teflon tape mine. Just another question - did you clean your silver foil before you wrapped them in dialectric? !! T |
