I'm currently working on an entire stereo system utilizing a chipamp. I would like to make an integrated system.
I currently have a processor in mind and like how easy it is to use things like I2C for control. I'm currently using I2C to control a LCD display and some other parts of the sound system. I've been hard pressed to find anything like an I2C controllable AM/FM board (not chip, I can't solder those tiny mobile phone ones!) or an I2C or serially controllable CDROM board. I plan to switch the audio sources with the relay board with a remote control. I've seen CDROM boards that let you control a standard ATAPI interface, perhaps this would be the way to go. An AM/FM board with RDS would be absolutely ideal, as would a cdrom interface with cd-text or even mp3 capabilities. Any ideas out there? I'd love to hear them! |

There is an AM/FM tuner available from Mouser, manufacturered by Alps. It doesn't use I2C, but rather SPI.

This is exactly along the lines of what I am looking for. I will have to figure out how to get more information on this device. I can't seem to find a decent datasheet. I should be able to interface with SPI just as well as I2C. I haven't hammered out the uC details yet.

I am also tracking down the specifications for this part. I will let you know if I find them.

sparkfun electronics sells the spk-fm-301 for $10. $15 with a carrier board so you don't have to do the really small soldering, but to be honest, I made a carrier out of some pin headers that I bent to mate up with the solder connections on the little board and it wasn't too bad.
