I'm looking into changing the x10 NJM4580 op amps in a Behringer Mic Pre I have to Burr-Brown (now Texas Instruments) OPA228's.
Aside from the original IC's being glued on it all looks fairly do-able with my somewhat limited level of electronics knowledge. Please forgive my ignorance, but I'm trying to find out which ti OPA2228 exactly, they come in a few different ways. P, U, UA etc' Here is the original chips datasheet http://semicon.njr.co.jp/njr/hp/file...o?_mediaId=152 and here is the datasheet for the 2228 http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folder...t/opa2228.html If anyone has to time to let me know I''d be off and running. |

When you refer to the NM4580 being glued on, do you mean its a surface mount chip soldered on? ie: is it about 7mm sized?
If you dont have good equipment and skills, you'll probably end up ripping/delaminating the circuit board traces off the board. Also, do you know what purpose the njm4580's serve? The opa2228 although nice isnt unity gain stable. It needs a gain of at least 5. You would have better luck with the opa2227. opa2228P = dip package opa2228ua = smd [surface mount] size opa2228u = same as the opa2228ua except with better tolerance. |

thanks for that.
No, I don't have schematics so don't know what each chip is doing. I will take a another look but from memory it was surface mount chips, yep about 7mm. This unit is rarely set below 5 input gain wise, is that what you mean? |
