There is something very bad about 27k resistors. 22k ones are fine; 33k is alright, but 27k is yuk! I don't like 18k much either.

they taste far better in a curry sauce.
But for chili they are better if sauted at 150degC for about an hour.

Circlotron, you are probably buying northern hemisphere 27k resistors, which is why the won't behave. Sometimes putting them in 'the other way round' helps.

This is because its color code is not pleasant to the eye. And you here what you see.
If you have to use 27k, always use a resistor series with clear text numbers printed on them, not colour codes. |

Oh, boy have I screwed things up using a 22k where a 33k was specified.
At my advanced age I have found that when I take my glasses off I can read the little squiggles on the CMF55 and RN55's a bit better. Story heard on the radio today -- a gal was arrested for DUI in the Midwest with a BAC about double the legal limit -- she argued with the arresting officer that she was fine driving as she kept one eye closed to avoid seeing double. I hear that the electrons in Aussie and Kiwi-land resistors go counter-clockwise, much as the water in the poop-shooter down under. |

It's a lovely colour combination!
