I'm confused about the orientation of a mosfet by looking at the schematic symbol (attached). The part is a BC560C PNP TO-92 mosfet. In looking at the symbol, the arrow indicates the emitter as far as I understand. So is my interpretation correct that the *flat side* of the mosfet faces *left* for ALL 3 mosfets (Q4, Q5, Q6) on this partial schematic? I'm thrown off cuz the one on the left is turned around. Thanks

Those are BJT's ie. transistors not mosfets. The connection on the "flat side" is the base.

Thanks for the clarification. Could you walk this newbe through the attached schematic (in post #1)? There is one BC560C on the left, and 2 on the right. Which side does the flat side point toward for the three. The two on the right I can see point in the same direction.

I hope you aren't imagining some sort of correspondence between the flat surface on the TO92 package and the 'flat' line on the transistor schematic symbol.
Emitter, Base and Collector on the TO92 package can be any of the 3 pins - look up the datasheet to find out which pin is what. |

Well, what you say was close to my original interpretation. But then I looked at the datasheet, and it indicates that the emitter is the arrow. It also indicates that the collector is the far left pin when looking at the flat surface of the part. So my conclusion while looking at the partial schematic in post #1 (attached), is that the flat surface of all three parts face left. What is throwing me off is that the symbol for the far left transistor is different than the other two. Can someone please confirm that the flat surfaces of all three face left (assume the collector is the far left pin and the emitter is the far right pin when viewing the part's flat surface)...

This is the pinout...
when looking at the Transistor symbol The Emitor is the arrow and the base is the Middle and the collector is the Top... |

The far left transistor symbol is mirrored to suit the schematic. If you are laying out the circuit exactly as it appears in the schematic then yes, the 3 transistors will be oriented the same way. If you are using a pcb, it will depend entirely on the layout on the board as to how each transistor is oriented.

Thank you Dan! I understand your qualification about the actual circuit. You told me what I need to know.
