Interesting article pointed out to me:-
Minimise winding losses in High-Frequency Inductors ... apparently the program optimises the (Litz wire) stranding arrangement and the window in the inductor. Theres also something about shaping the tape in tapewound inductors, the foil has a half-circle cut out of the CSA. I haven't tried the program yet but it runs online , or there's a download if you have MATLAB. w |

I've read the printed version of this article in PE magazine; it really does have a very limited application. In practice, the minimal improvement in winding losses will be negated by the lost of winding space anyway. A good showcase of "Math Skills" from the kids at Darthmouth though.
