Twin core sheilded mains cable

Hi

I am wanting to make up some TNT TTS Twisted Snake mains cables. http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/ttse.html

I am having problems finding the correct twin core shielded cable.

This is the ideal specification, but it is $2000 a reel: http://www.sjmediasystem.com/bl-83802rd-500.html

I have found some reasonably priced cable at Farnell, which is twin 1.5mm (total) stranded copper, but the shielding is galvanised steel braiding, not the twin foil and copper braiding screening like is used in the TTS

Can anyone give me some pointers or suggest a source of this kind of cable?

I don't want to start an argument here, but this always makes me scratch my head. How can a few feet of braided/shielded cable make any difference when plugged into an outlet that has tens if not hundreds of feet of standard solid core mains wiring behind it?

Wouldn't you need the same shielded wiring to run all the way back to the transformer outside to make any difference at all?

I agree with your sentiment and am dubious also, but respected people feel otherwise.

I also assume that companies would not sell (or customers buy) £1000+ boutique mains leads, if they did not make even a small diffference.

Companies will sell whatever people will buy. Their sole purpose is to make a profit and they will do this however they can.

Case in point: Bottled water is marketed as better than tap water - studies have found that most bottled water is LESS pure than many city water supplies.

There are all kinds of scams out there, especially when you're dealing with audio and the relative imprecision of our hearing, which makes it possible for "manufacturers" to make absurd, impossible to test claims. Just take a look at a few of these:

You're much better off spending money on cleaning up the power with a very high quality power supply, high quality regulation, and shielding of the audio components themselves. An expensive power cable is just going to provide the same quality of power as what's coming out of your wall socket. If the electricity coming out of the wall is "dirty", it'll be just as dirty coming out the other end of your expensive power cable.
