What are the good manufactures in terms of quality? I know are is a lot of company's importing poor quality parts these days, i am trying to avoid them.
Phillips and Motorola make great transistors. Vishay for resistors.
I am wondering about other semiconductors and especially electrolytic capacitors. Does Fairchild generally make quality mosfets and ic's? I have no idea about modern capacitors. Is Sprague good quality?

With all the aquisitions happening, you need a program to find out who is who nowadays.
Basically, if you stick to anything from Digikey chipswise, you're fine.
Caps, there's a lot of great caps, a lot more rubbish ones. Sprague are OK, but measure no better in my tests than el-cheapo Chinese polyesters. The choice is yours.
