Default Alternate remote volume method

I would like to motorize my volume control using a motor, pulleys and belt. I would also like a clue. Where do I start?

I just briefly looked at rentron.com but how can I use those circuits to control a motor? I just want to be able to make the motor turn in either direction. Nothing fancier than that. Would something like this be a start? http://www.rentron.com/project03.htm

Bent audio has a solution for a seiden switch. I believe they will also have one for the DACT switch.

What is your volume control (Pot, stepped attenuator, etc...)

Could use a small stepper, a DC motor, etc...

I have a pot now but will be going to a stepped attenuator. Stepper, DC, etc was what I was envisioning.

But my only electronic skills are basically soldering and putting batteries in the right way.

It would be a whole lot easier to do if you started with a motorized pot. www.brigarelectronics.com has an inexpensive one by Alps. Then all you'd need is to have the relays on that kit apply dc voltage to the motor, and the reverse polarity turns it the other direction.

This is what the Bent audio passive remote looks like with a Seiden switch and S&B silver transformers. Maybe this will work for you.

The Bent implementation is exactly what I was thinking. I didn't see a price for the upgrade on their web page but if their other pricing is any indication, it will probably cost more than the preamp I want to put it in.

Using a system like this gives me the freedom to use pretty much any attenuator I want.

Any ideas on how I could build one myself?
