Default newbie capacitor question

can i use normal 1uf 400v capacitor to replace a 1uf 280v x 2 suppression cap? this suppression cap is located on output and input stage of yaqin tube buffer

can i use 5uf 400v(film cap) parallel with 10uf 250v (elektrolitic cap) to replace one 15uf 250v electrolitic cap?

You can use those caps as long as the are the same or higher Voltage of the originals...So a 400V capacitor can replace a 280v one ,But not the other way arround unless you know the Maximum Voltage will not be reached....

Yes...Suppresion caps are double wound and have no air gaps and such and are used to supress RF noise and other hash but In a tube buffer I believe you might not get any real extra benefit ...

All I can say is try it with the caps you have and if you don"t like the sound fork over the extra money for the proper Supression caps...

I"m sure someone with more knowlege of the curcuit you are working on and info on suppression caps will chime in...

Hi,
is the X2 cap 280Vac?
This is rated for use across 220/240Vac mains live to neutral and is self healing if subjected to a high voltage spike (is it tested to 1500Vdc?).
A 400Vdc cap is not an equivalent.
