Default only if you can buy it for 50E

259 is really expensive for a 10 MHz scope with a round CRT. Figure $400 (including shipping) will get you a nice TEK, HP, Sencore or Hitachi with 100MHz bandwidth, multiple channels, multiple and delayed sweep etc.

Lightbulb I think he means second hand !

protos

Lots of places in the UK for second hand 'scopes ...

For the same money you could get an old but much higher spec instrument.
If you like I can post some links to second hand dealers (UK) or you could try eBay.
If you want new I doubt if you would find cheaper than E260.

Dave - about to buy a second hand tek 'scope !!

Default 1500 Euro for a 100MHz scope?

You can buy a NEW Tektronix TDS2014 4-channel, color, with FFT for about that much. You can buy a demo 2245 for that much.

No reason not to buy second hand, as long as it's from a reputable dealer who will guarantee operation and calibration. For reference, I just paid about what you're considering for a used Kikusui, 6 channel, delayed sweep, 100MHz, with probes, and calibrated. It replaces my old Tek, which is sadly starting to fade away.

Last year I bought a perfect second hand Tektronix 2235 oscilloscope for 255Ä.
It's a 100MHz scope, and it have a delayed sweep option too.
It may be a bit old, but it's working perfect.

So it will be a good choice to go for a second hand scope, you can find many good ones in the UK.
Over here in Norway the second hand marked for scopes is a bit small, but I have seen advertisings for UK second hand stores for electronic equipment who are selling scopes.
Maybe you can try one of them or alternatively post a thread where you ask for a second hand scope.

Cool Here they are ...

http://www.irsales.com/

http://www.telford-electronics.com/

http://www.stewart-of-reading.co.uk

http://www.distel.co.uk/

http://www.telnet.uk.com/

http://www.mb-radio.co.uk

http://tech-asset.co.uk/

I have not bought anything from any of the above sites so I cannot comment on them (yet). The prices look 'typical' of UK prices (compared to US prices) ie $1=£1

There are a few existing threads on diyAudio recomending different brands / models if you need to choose something.

IMHO 60MHz / analogue / 2 channel will do most things for a reasonable price.

An old second hand Tek is usually a really good scope. But be warned, if you buy second hand check that it is in good working order. All these scopes from 20 years old and later contain a lot of hybrid (thick film) circuits. Tektronics donít have these anymore. So when one is broken you are lost.

When a scope of Tektronics is not current anymore, special spare parts become quickly rare. That's a pity
