Default Sources for transistors in the UK

I trying to build a Theremin, from Popular electronics plans, circa 1967. The circuit calls for the following semi conductors:

Motorola MPS3638 Transistor
Motorola MPS3708 Transistor
Texas Instruments TIS-59 N-Channel FET

I cannot find these in Farnell's, RS Components or Maplin. Are they still available generally, and if so, where shoul I look? Alternatively are there any equivalent replacement products that ay be easier to get hold of?

Kind regards,

Edward

Hi, mcai7et2

These transistors are as old as the amp you are trying to build.

I can give you substitutes but I don't know the amp, so no guarantee they will perform.

It could be interesting to post a schematic. More experienced
people will be able to give you better advice then.

Here you go:
MPS3638= 2N3638: NF/S, 25V, 0,5A, 0,3W, <90/170ns
MPS3708= 2N3708: NF, 30V, 0,03A, 0,36W, 80MHz,B=45..660

TIS59: BF 244..245

2N3638:BFX40
2N3708: BC550C

All 3 available at Farnell.

/Hugo - Has the feeling that this amp must be very special...

Default Actually...

Its not an amp at all, a Theremin is a musical instrument that is controlled by moving your hands in the vicinity of two aerials, one controlling pitch and one volume.

Circuit diagram is here:
http://www.maxiespages.com/theremin/...schematics.pdf

Thanks a lot for the information, I will try those and let you know how I get on.

Regarding electronics suppliers in Aberdeen, RS Components have just opened a trade counter in Altens which is a relief, because as you mentioned, Maplins in Aberdeen suck.

Cheers,

Ed

Looks very interesting. Keep us informed about the progress.

/Hugo - thinks only amps carry transistors
