Default How long will 9V batteries last for powering opamps?

I will be using BB opamps for some filtering (bass boost, and a subwoofer XO). I am considering powering them with two 9V batteries. How long will these last? I assume it is really really long, but if it is only several hours I will just make my own PS.

Default not long with a NE5532

but there are a lot of micropower rail to rail single supply opamps out there from all the usual suspects. Use the parametric search engines to find a very low power or micropower opamp.

Normally it's rather expensive to use batteries for HIGH fidelity. 9 V battery has 100-170 mAh or more which gives operation of a couple of hours up to a day or two.

Take the capacity (mAh) and divide this with the current consumption 1-10 mA.

Default Lithium 9V Battery

Energizer makes Lithium based 9V cells that have quite a bit more juice packed into them. They have several other advantages, too, but probably not significant for a fixed, home environment. They are also lighter, so they would be better for portable use, less sensitive to temperature, flatter output over time, etc.

Of course, they are like $7 per battery, so they are alot more expensive.

If the person isn't very rich there are two choices:

Very low current consumption = long operation time, not so expensive

Use rechargeable batteries = cost some in the beginning then it's for free (almost).
