Large spools of magnet wire

In the past I've gotten 5lb spools of magnet wire from manufacturers like New England Wire. Search under wire manufacturers and call around to see who'll sell you less than a truckload. Don't be shocked at the prices, as copper has gone up tremendously in the last couple years. On top of that, it's not light, so shipping will be significant. IMO, if you can find a local source like the motor rewind shops mentioned above, you'll do better on price.
 
Depending how big a "large" spool is, a standard 12g spool is approx. 40 to 45 lb. That's how I usually buy it, as the smaller spools are real expensive in the long haul.

Conrad is right though, copper has turned real expensive over the last couple of years :(
All of a sudden active X-overs and regulated PSU's has become real interesting.
