I found this link for those who are interested to have some parts machined but are not equipped to work with metals.

You simply design your parts using a CAD software (there's also a simple software available for download) and then send you drawings using your computer.

However, I wonder how much could cost a drilled/holed/chamfered,brushed faceplate ? :)

Can you recommend a supplier of nice aluminum (preferrably cast) or steel boxes? I checked Hammond and BUD and some others, but the dimentions are not suitable. I want to use it for a PS case, for a gainclone and the inside dimensions have to be at least 4.9 X 6 X 2.75".

Mouser sells an Eagle cast aluminum box that should do the job. It's 5 x 6.5 x 3. Part number's 400-4597.

I have looked for similar products here too and noticed that it is very hard to find a nice molded box if you have some set dimensions in mind. And with quality finish (Rolec, Boss), they don’t come cheap as well.
Peter, with your skills and tools available, I would look some box shape extrusions. You can cut them to desired length and add end caps. Who knows, you can make some small box supplying service out of that in your spare time.
Anyway, here is a little bit different way of using aluminum-molded boxes (ala Hammond).

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Also this place had great stuff, but I couldn't seem to find a retailer here in the US. Any ideas? And it looks like you can ship directly from them, but the shipping is terrible, since it's overseas.

my way

Twice I have bought used audio ( a k7 player and an amp) in a thriftstore
for $2.49 each. I took of the front and emptied the case, then spraypainted the casing's cover.
I replaced the original front with a front I made and the result is very satisfying for me.
If asked for I can post pics during and after the job.
