Default Any interest in these solid machined aluminum knobs

I may be able to sell some of these, made to order, lead time of about a week or two. $25 including shipping, they can be done with a chamfer or a fillet, with or without the indicator. They hole in the back is for a 6mm shaft, with a drilled and tapped set-screw to hold it in place. The knob is 2" in diamter and .75" tall.

This is just to see if there is interest, if i get 20 people or so interested, I'll go ahead and do it. Please e-mail me at paul.hilgeman@valpo.edu

I can make 2" or 1" diameter
chamfer or fillet
Indicator or no indicator.

$20 or 1" or $25 for 2" diameter. Please specify what you are interested in. If enough people are interested, it would plan or shipping them all out at once, in about 3 weeks. The reason for the small cost delta is because the materials cost is about the same, the labor is identical, and the shipping will be very slightly more for the 2".

E-mail me if interested.

I'm no machinist, but somehow I get the feeling those aren't worth $25 each.. no offense!

Though...if the aluminum(?) stock costs like, $5/inch (IIRC, typical MetalMart pricing..???), then oh, 30 minutes max. per knob, that might be $10-15 in parts and labor...leaving $10 of profit. Meh, adds up I guess!

Humm.. I can't believe the thought never occurred to me to cast some of my own knobs! Only problem is the rough as-cast finish, which can be roughly sanded off (due to my lack of proper tools, i.e. lathe), and it would be hard to keep it round and centered.

Thanks for the inspiration...

Tim

Yeah, it comes out to about that, plus five bucks for shipping, so relatively little profit if you ask me. And if you compare it to what is out there, it is a bargain.

If that's the bargain, how much you think I should ask for those knobs, which are really professionaly finished?

Ranging from 1" to 1.2".

It all depends who's looking for what. I for instance can get nice knobs locally for a fraction of the cost you quoted, especially before when Partsconnection was in business and you could buy all those cosmetic rejects, or when Classe Audio knobs appeared suddenly at local surplus dealer. The brass ones for instance, where bought recently at $15 a pc.

Your offer can be good for somebody who wants a specific size and shape of a knob, and then custom charges make sense. Otherwise, it's a bit expensive.

I'll see him tomorrow and see if I can get him to cut the price down to 10 bucks per knob or so.
