Top of the line Alps pot used in Kondo KSL-M7 preamp.

Anyone know how to get one of these?

IMHO you have to be an AudioPhool to pay $600 for a pot.... but nevertheless; your wish is my command.

I've bought a "poor mans" ALPS pot from that seller and the transaction went OK.

They're a good seller and I bought a lowly motorised RK27 from them recently.... very smooth transaction.

Thanks. Well it's either this pot or getting the Vishay S-102 resistor volume control from Placetteaudio.com, which is $1000. But I wonder if anyone has ever heard this carbon wiper control compared to the less costly Alps or stepped attenuators?

A 47 position Shallco will cost you US$ 100 from Percy Audio and a few handfull of resistors plus a lot of time.
Used as a shunt pot you have only one resistor in series with the signal and one to ground for each setting, NOT a string!
Easy to calculate 1.5 dB steps and a wide range as many steps

Thanks all for your advice and info. All of us involved in the high end have been a "fool" or "phool" at least once. I may even buy this thing so I can compare it with other less costly options and answer the question once and for all.

If I added up the cost of all the cheap pots, switches, relays, resistors etc I've bought over the years its probably more than $600.
