I recently bought a Sony 4300F active crossover.
I plan to upgrade this crossover by changing the mylar and electrolytic signal caps with something else. There's not too much place inside this crossover to use so called boutique caps so I looked at Panasonic ECQ polypropylene caps because they're small. The Panasonic ECQ-P (Z) appears to be great because it has copper leads instead of steel plated leads. I never tried Panasonic ECQ caps series for audio. Are they good ? Any other replacement is welcome but the caps must to be small Thanks a lot. |

I'm using them in my preamp RIAA network and they sound fine. They also measure well, with the expected very low DF. Most are available in 2% tolerance from Digikey for $.25 to $.50, so they'll never be a "boutique" part, but your ears won't know the difference. At that price it's perfectly reasonable to buy a couple dozen and select/match them down to .5% or better.

Thanks a lot Conrad
There's also two electrolytic 3.3 uf at the end of the low pass circuit. Black Gates type N appears interesting to use because they're small. Should I try to fit small polypropylene caps instead of using black Gates N ? |
