Default Hook-up/chassis wire

I have a few projects that I'm about to get started on but I'm so new to DIY that I don't have a stock of chassis wire to work with. I was wondering what you all use, what you suggest (gauge, manufacturer, solid/stranded, etc) and where I should go about buying it. I can't afford to use silver wire on everything nor do I think that would be a good idea. I have a copy of Michael Percy's catalog and I know that Mouser sells Belden's offerings now...

Thanks guys, my projects are 2 chip amps, a Pearl phono, DAC and eventually an Aleph 30...I can wait to buy the heavier gauge stuff later as that won't start until later this year.

For an all-purpose hookup wire, I suggest the Kimber TCSS. 19 awg. varistrand conductor of high quality copper. Works well in a variety of applications.

I used 21 gauge auric hook up wire from partsconnexion.com

I have yet to use the amp, but the wire quality seems very good.

if single core suits, then 0.6mm copper.
Alternatively, tinned (Pb/Sn) 0.6mm copper.

They come with about a dozen different colours of insulation.
