Hi,
Is that a lens or just a filtering window? If the latter, there's some deep red cellophane sheets at a hobby store that will do well. Cheers! |

Machine a piece of red acrylic sheet. It's a tried and tested solution. You can get red acrylic sheet in just about any dimension you'd care to dream of, at your local ad-sign manufacturer....and he may even machine it for you for a six-pack
![]() EDIT: this is how they got the ones in your pic Magura

@Geek
Don't be cross with me but I was looking for an easy-buy-solution of a professional supplier. I think Mr. Creek doesn't go to the hobby store, too. @Magura I have seen that Röhm has some red translucent Plexiglass. That was my second solution to mill it. I thought there is e.g. a little company in the world that will produce it for the worlds' demand. Regards Thomas |

Which IR band are you interested in?
Different materials are transparent in different bands. Melles Griot are an optics company who I remember from my physics past, and I think they list some parts in exotic materials. If you want near IR (800nm to 1um) then conventional optical glass is fully transparent, and the focal length will only be marginally different to the visible; depending on application you may need to add a filter to block the visible band. Again Melles Griot would be worth checking for stuff like that. |

the exposed and processed leader from colour 35mm negative film is transparent to infra red and opaque to visible light. a good filter but not very strong.

I use the red part from a 3M gel filled crimp connector. Pops out, remove the metal piece and goo. Just have to add a hole to the panel (I think about 10mm) and put it in. Works a treat and have done several.
These are the connectors and the pic shows it in a panel for an IR. |

Also give Edmund Scientific a look. They carry all kinds of filters/lenses.
