Default Trying to figure out what a part is in an amplifier.

I am trying to find out two things about these parts in a car amplifier I am upgrading.

1) What are they

*edit* (The green guys )

2) Who made them?

The numbers on them make me think they are a resistor of some sort, but I cannot seem to find anything quite like em.

Any answers you guys might have would be much appreciated!

Hi,

I don't recognize the logo, so I can't answer who made them.

They are mylar capacitors though. 0.047uF (473) at 10% (K)

Cheers!

Thank you! Do you know what the "2A" refers to?

Also, what is the logic behind "473" = .047uF ? I know more than the average person when it comes to electronics but I'm not the most educated when it comes to the reasons behind some of the nomenclature!

The codes are well known and are published in several books.

logic has nothing to do with it. see mullard tube codes.

The code is quite simple and logical, it's the value in picofarads, with the last digit being the number of zeros to add on the end, so it's 47 (+3 zeros) or 47000pF, which is also 0.047uF or 47nF.

Ahhh thank you Nigel. I never said it wouldn't be logical, as most of these things are...... they just aren't all predictable!

BD,

this one is, you got the first answer because this type of polyester cap is green, aka Greenies.
Even wittier, the manufacturer thought it would be even easier to name the brand "Green"
2A means it's a 100 volt cap.

Oh, they do

When their faces turn red, you've done something wrong and you will be in the dog house for an arbitrary number of days, ranging from 1 to infinite.....

And when their face is white you know you'll have to return those new electrostatics.

Thank you all again for the info. I am thinking about replacing all 33 of these capacitors in the amplifier as the amp is 20 years old.

I am just giving the electrolytics in this amplifier an overhaul and I thought, while I'm at it, why not replace the other capacitors?! I have read debates on this forum about the life span of various parts.... any input on how long mylar caps stay within tolerance?

(I am doing this project just for fun, and I don't mind what some might see as "frivolous" expenses )
