When searching mouser catalog, it also suggest supposedly equivalent parts.
For example: I was searching for "IRF9Z34" and I got "SFP9Z34" which is a Fairchild equivalent part. This is probably right by looking at the part number. there are very similar. Fairchild's website has an equivalent part search. When I put in "IRF9Z34", the results gave me "FQP17P06" as a "drop-in" replacement. My question is: Who do I trust? Is there an authoritative website? for tubes, Frank and TDSL can suggest equivalent and near-equivalent tubes. Is there something similar for semiconductors specifically transistors? Thank you very much |

Trust no one, the truth is *not* out there. Always get a datasheet for both parts and compare relevant specs and pinouts. Semiconductor substitution depends on the application, so any factory lists are just a guess, except for the cases where a part is a true "second source", carries a similar part number, and the specs are basically identical. Even "improved" parts can cause problems if the BW has been increased or the Hfe is way better, since a given design might no longer be stable.
