Default EU sources for good toroidals

Hi everyone, here's Marco from Italy.

I'm a bit in trouble getting good quality toroidals at fairy prices.

I've read somewhere in the forum about www.toroidy.pl, they should sound great but a bit expansive for my wallet (300VA would cost about 60euro + 30shipping).

Do you know any other source for toroidals?

Maybe you need some toroidals and we can join our orders

Let me know if interested,

Ciao, Marco

Howcome the 60 Euros ?

When i take a peek, the rate is 95 Zloty (ex VAT) for a 300VA, the equivalent of 25 Euros.
Even with 22% Polish sales tax added, less than half of what a decent 300VA costs overhere.
Someone with a European tax number can save a few points by having the goodies sent over without the VAT charge.

Something is changed i think... i asked for dual 24V 330VA (67euro) and 2 18V 300VA (62 each)
But i asked for Audio toroidals, did you?

Hi,

more to check for myself than to really answer:
you did already check on Farnell, right?

In the Italian site nothing comes up with a search on the Italian word "trasformatore", but they have them under
http://it.farnell.com/jsp/search/bro...?N=411+1000191
(use the English term instead)

Both the 250VA and 300VA start just below 40 Eur (33 + VAT).

Now here is where I'm not sure:
you are looking for "good quality toroidals":
Would the Farnells (producer: Multicomp) qualify?

...as for the "fairy" prices, funny typo: this would translate to
"prezzi di fata".
I think farnell's prices are "fair" compared to shops here in France.
What price would "fairies" ask...?

Ciao,
Giuseppe.

Such transformers have more accurate winding, vibration damping, static screens added, and are custom order.
Custom order transformers have a price tag that's a multitude of the serial manufacture type rate.
A low noise 300VA Plitron will be in the order of 150 Euros each, ex. VAT and ex. shipping cost from Canada.
Please post directions to your planet.

The Farnell toroids are manufactured in a less favorable part of Asia, each to his own for the definition of "good quality" and "fairy prices".

Ciao Giuseppe, I know that Farnell deals with Multicomp but i've never use it. Did you?

I tried only a BSAB electonik toroidal in my past experience so I cannot understand what to expect from a good quality transformer. Surely not much hum as BSAB did.

So you tried standard toroidals? Are you satisfied with them?

Over the years i've used transformers of various brands, to name a quick few ; Holden&Fisher, Talema, Heathtone, ILP, Plitron, Intercontinental Radio (from Spain)
The biggy toroid brand overhere is Amplimo, but i've also used Belpa toroids and a couple of others by local manufacturers.

"Standard" does not mean they're all of the same quality, using crappy parts is a shame of the precious time invested.
Transformers such as the ones from Maplin i consider as cheap junk, no manufacturer name mentioned and the regulation factor of the 300VA's is way too high to be any good.
If i were keen on buying a British toroidal , i'd rather spend 3 pounds more on a denty reputation Airlink transformer. A shame really, the UK used to be the Holy Grail of transformers.

Spend your money on big heatsinks for the FW amp and put in your time where it really counts.
Don't waste it on esoteric yuppie hardware, unless your pocket is overflowing as is and it makes you feel better. Everyone wants a Tifoso-mobile, despite that it's just a bumped-up Fiat.

Hey,

how about the Schuro standard transformers - http://www.schuro.de/preisl-trafos.htm - the SE-RKT modells are not to pricy and for some euros more you can have your transformers custom made...
