Exclamation Replacing multi-section caps with multiple caps?

Is there any penalty or significant alteration in perfomance in replacing a bad can-type multi-section electrolytic with multiple caps of the corresponding multiple values, and wiring them in such a way such as to mimic the single cap?

I am curious, as our reserves of obsolete, NOS multi-sections are dwindling.

I think you can only expect improvement by using newer production (lower ESR etc.) separate electrolytics. For current production multi-section types for tube-gear see JJ electronics and Fisher&Tausche.
