choke for an 8v power supply

In National's website, there is a program that can calculate resistor, cap and choke values for the required Vout and Iout. The program has recommendations for a suitable choke brand/model.

BUt these brand/model are usually not available locally.

How do I know if a choke is suitable for power supply use?
