Hi all, I'd like to build a silent A/B footswitch for a band with whom I run FOH on tour. The band is currently using a Radial hotshot ABi, however it makes a very loud "snap" through the entire PA every time he presses it.
Radial HotShot™ ABi - Line Input Selector
I have been making talkback boxes for recording studios using a silent switch circuit that was once listed on the Crown audio website.
(I drew a quick version)
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

This circuit is actually a lowpass filter at around 1hz. I was thinking about building two of these circuits (one for each mic) so each mic would mute/unmute with the footswitch. However, I don't know enough about electronics to know if this would work or not. The microphones are dynamic, although there is phantom power running on all channels (limitation of the monitor rig console). Is there a better / propper way to do this?

Enzo, the circuit that I drew is a silent switch. I don't know what the circuit of the Radial pedal is. i would like to build a new pedal featuring two of the pop-less circuits tied together at the output, as to mute one mic while the other is un-muted.
I don't know how to upload the graphic to this forum, so I'll try the old HTML img src tags...

Take a look at an Ernie Ball 6165 stereo volume/PAN pedal. Two in, two out, Set it for pan operation (as A +, B -; as A -, B +). Run your two sources in, run the two outputs into a straight on Y chord, and Bob's yer uncle. The "switching" is not instantaneous. So what? You can slam an expression pedal to one limit or the other PDQ. Still the switching is actually a fade. You may not want it to fade now, and may never. Fine, slam that pedal. But, "now" that you have it, you might try fading between the sources and see if the smooth (ie. slow) fade is useful. I eliminated the A/A+B/B switch on my Telecaster with two volume switches, one for each of the pickups. Not only will I never have clicks, I have way more control over my output than the old switch could give. You want to build it? I got a 4 mono in, 1 mono out (with a delay effect) little bity mixer for $40 or so (from B&H I think). Get one, take out two of the input pots, hook them up reciprocal on a pedal (two slabs of wood connected by a hinge, and you'd have it made with two more inputs to make into another such device, or any other thing you'll dream up later. Don't think outside the box, tear the box apart and use the pieces to build a better box.
