Just to see if I can start a conversation:
Are we as DIYers so caught up with the idea of imaging as available only via two spaced sources?
The project discussed above was a step out in a direction that I thought might have possibilities in a home environment where available space and WAF would be large parts of the "what to make" equation.
There is at least one other single-point stereo speaker idea in a forum under the DIY "umbrella".
Let's get a little brainstorm going...

Got to agree with turk 182: binaural recording. Sync that to a head-worn video camera and you've got a visual knowledge of location to go with the auditory results. What more could one want, other than maybe a life-time supply of malted milk balls?

Nice original idea. Did you say that you were moving? So there will be a lot of head scratching for the young sound tech that starts new, trying to figure out what the heck is hanging from the ceiling? He'll ask the parishioner if he can take it down, and put all those drivers in his car sound system instead.

The gentleman that actually built the array is a long-time (and continuing) member of the congregation. It is (more or less) understood that I would be notified of any impending change - just to get advice on how to implement what is left to the best advantage. No worries! :-)
