For nearly 30 years, I have enjoyed the Getz/Gilberto first LP and now CD.
Fluid soft rhythmic vocal and instrumental sounds can not be beat, and I found out tonight the lady singer never sang professionally before the recording, she was the wife of one of the musicians... Is there a similar CD?, soft jazz, bossa nova like?, sure like to have others with similar recording. thanks, gychang |

How about Jobim's original version? This is a great album. My parents had it years ago.

Why not just seek out Astrud Gilberto's album's, if she's what you're after?

The Girl From Ipanema is a great song, but only the beginning of the long lasting Bossa Nova movement. Many factors, besides its obvious musical qualities, contributed to its fame, including the fact that it was inspired by a real life person.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helo%C3%ADsa_Pinheiro Very easy on the eyes indeed. And her daughter... well, never mind. There is plenty more in the same style. Try Rosa Passos, I am sure you will love it. |
