Well, to get away from singers for a minute: Carla Bley. Good keyboardist but absolutely great arranger - check out "Reactionary Tango" on her best album, Social Studies. Anybody good enough to arrange for Charlie Haden has got to be taken seriously as a musician. Her best album cover, BTW, is Live.

And those of you who think of Nina Simone as only a singer need to check out her piano playing on the Little Girl Blue album.

As for singers: Michelle Shocked before she went into bluegrass (no flames, please, just a personal preference) is absolutely worth a listen. Texas Campfire Tapes, her first, is a great folk-blues album and an interesting example of a simple recording setup (done on a Walkman recording cassette deck ).

Regards.

Aengus

One of the very best female guitar players, mind blowing...

The sound is off in the recording, but one can still feel the passion in this piece....

If you like female guitarists, you'd be hard pressed to find many with as much skill, style, and feeling as Nori Bucci

Enjoy!

Orianthi can play pretty good too.
