Aren´t we all to gladly? So i ask for the most depressing songs ever.

My favorite

The Cure - Siamese Twins

Edit: the whole album "Pornography" is scaring me...

While the whole Pornography album is depressing, the Cure song I find most depressing is "Disintigration," from the album by the same name. Other good "depressing" songs by The Cure on the Disintegration album are "Same Deep Water as You" and "Prayers for Rain."

Heck, I could run a list of good "Depressing" Cure songs from other albums of thier's, but I'll go with other songs by other bands that I find haunting or depressing:

Keep Running Up That Hill -- Placebo covering Kate Bush
Roads -- Portishead
The 2 of Us -- Suede
Wholeness -- Halou
Love Will Tear Us Apart -- Joy Division
Mad World -- Tears for Fears or the Gary Jules cover

I could probably go down the Darkwave road to try and find more depressing stuff, but most of those songs just try to be sad rather than making the sorrow a thing of beauty.

in the 80s I was given a compilation that I lent and was lost. Anyway it had a song that went like

"when you get out from the hospital, let me back into your arms"

Was a very dark song about a guy whos girl friend is ina coma cos of his driving I think. Does anybody know this song and who wrote it? Songs like this are good for perspective sometimes:)

That might be Girlfriend In A Coma by The Smiths (or was it just solo Morrissey?).

I would say Down From Dover by Dolly Parton is quite the downer, in a good way.

Oh, and Kwantam, I guess one of us will have to change our avatar.

Moby?

I always thought that I hated Moby, but heard this awfully depressing song at the end of a Soprano's episode, kind of liked it in a weird way. Turns out its Moby- When Its Cold I'd Like to die. I've heard many of the tunes above, they are not as depressing as this.

Lyrics.

Enjoy.

I think its Hospital from Back in Your Life by Jonathon Richman and the Modern Lovers.

Hi Tcasimir,

I think your right, Ice Cream man was on the same compilation and it does sound like his voice and style.
Shortly after hearing Ice craeam man a whopping 20 odd years ago now, I went to see JR and modern lovers at the old wellington town hall.
Unfortunately the local skin heads turned up and pissed them off. Was only a few hundred people there and they left stage when the loosers started throwing beer cans at them.

seeya and thanks, will try find it:)

As if other people's music wasn't depressing enough, I've been making my own for years. Some decidedly tongue in cheek, some not so much. I sing, and my brother does pretty much everything musical these days. Music and lyrics by several friends and band members over the years, particularly Dave Gatiss, Pete Giles, Ray Cave and my friend Judie Rowlf who sadly died of cancer a few years ago. I always think of her when I sing Whirlpool- probably her best lyric. Vocal melodies and many of the lyrics are mine. Check out www.myspace.com/ohnoitsthebrothersgrim and you'll get the general idea...

"Blood Inside" isn´t as good as expected but not bad at all. Maybe i hear it thru a vew more times. It is very varying indeed but lends a lot of things. Reminds me on NIN or parts of the Gothic scene like the newer albums from "Elend".
The mastering isn´t the best also.
