Most depressing song?

The saddest songs I've heard are:

Daniel Powter - Bad Day

Where is the moment when you need it most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
Tell me your blue skies faded to grey
Tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carryin' on

Your standing in line just to hit a new low
Your faking a smile with the coffee to go
Tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces every time
And I don't need no carryin' on

(chorus)
Cause you had a bad day, you're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know, you tell me don't lie
You work on a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day, the camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day... you had a bad day

Sad song.

Another is James Blunt - You're Beautiful

You're beautiful. You're
beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she
thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to
face the truth,
I will never be with you.

Another sad one...:(

Orangeville

Tiz a sad one from the Internet.

Tonight I'll smash my car to pieces
Spread all of my diseases
Rip the sheets off my bed
Get the **** kicked out of my head
But in the morning, I'll be sober

Tonight I'll spend it all
Pull the arms off my doll
Stick a lit cigarette in my arm
Do all kinds of harm
But in the morning, I'll be sober

Tonight I'll forget how to speak
My legs will become so weak
Urinate down my thighs
Dot my T’s and cross my I’s
But in the morning, I'll be sober

Tonight I'll tell everyone off
I'll spit, choke and cough
Smoke until I'm stoned
Talk for hours on the phone
But in the morning, I'll be sober

Tonight I'll drink all of my wine
Roll down sidewalks without my spine
Get kicked out of the café
Put on a true display
But in the morning, I'll be sober

Tonight I'll burn down the house
Get tight with the neighbor and cheat on my spouse
Smoke all of my cigars
Drag my keys down peoples cars
But in the morning, I'll be sober

Tonight I'll lose my glasses
Kick all of your *****
Lose my sense of taste
Finish the race last place
But in the morning, I'll be sober

Tonight I'll forget my clothing
Sulk in self pity and loathing
Pass out and sleep on the subway car
Come so close yet be so far
But in the morning, I'll be sober

I'll see you , and raise you "two little boys" by Rolf Harris.

"Did you think I would leave you dying ..."

always brings a tear to my eye

:bawling:

I'm told that M. Thatcher chose that as one of her tunes for Desert Island Discs but her spin-doctors advised against it. Or is that an urban myth?

Non-UK readers: Desert Island Discs is a radio show where each week a celebrity (or politician) chooses the records he/she couldn't live without, and blathers about his/her life and work.

My sig - a line from A Soldier's Things - just reminded me of a whole collection of bittersweet sad songs: about half of Tom Waits' Swordfishtrombones.

Nick Cave

Nick Cave = interesting lyrics, Bad Seeds could be better. His recording engineer on " Lyre of Orpheus" should be taken out back and horse whipped = CD is over compressed and generally falls into the catagory of CDs to be avoided.

:whazzat:

I may be wrong but having listened to that set of recordings hundreds of times now, I assume it was recorded over a long period of time and possibly in multiple locations.

I love the sound of it and yes it varies wildly from track to track and at times causes strain.

IMHO, I would point a finger at the folks who mastered it as it doesn't sound like it was mastered at all...but then it's a grown up Nick so it is possible they were all up to it just the same. Ya never can tell, especially when you are dealing with a wild card like Nick. Could be tryin' to pull some 'ol Tom Waits tricks...those types of recording techniques bring "Fame and Shame" depending on who you talk to. I think Nick is on the right track but you certainly have a point.

Sitting down for a serious listen on a decent hi-fi to the Abattoir may make your eyes twitch at times and it would be handy to have a hand held equalizer. ;) I know exactly where you are coming from. Nice to see someone talk about Nick Cave.

Cheers,

Shawn.

I don't know about most depressing - but the saddest song I've ever heard is;

"Ne Me Quitte Pas" by Jacques Brel.

Just doesn't get any sadder than that. :bawling:

Brel has a few runners up, too. For example "Orly"

"Et nom de dieu!
C'est triste Orly le dimanche
Avec ou sans Bécaud"

(probably doesn't do much for you Anglophones, tho.)
