More fundamental Led Zep ‘copying’?

I read an interview (with Johnny Depp) the other day, in which he suggested that Robert Plant directly copied his vocal style from the singer in one of the early psychedelic bands, Roky Erickson in Texan The 13th Floor Elevators. :hot:

You could argue what were Zep’s most distinctive qualities, but RP’s shriek was right up there.

I haven’t had success in getting any T13FE yet – who knows them and can comment?

I'm listening to "The Psychedelic Sounds of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators" right now. They were a big influence on another fave of mine: Spacemen 3. There are some similarities between Plant and Roky Erickson, but they don't sound that much alike.

Maybe another "conspiracy" type theory out the window.

I've been trying to get some T13FE on Soulseek for hours, but all I find is queues. :bawling:

Apart from *not being a direct RP inspiration , how do you rate them?
