Got this dvd called Calle 54 ....I really liked : Jesús "Chucho" Valdés and his Father. Israel "Cachao" Lopez Michel Camillo But I don't know which of their albums would be a good start.. :-) I also have Getz/Gilberto and Jazz Samba..but they are better for background music IMO..i.e. too boring. |

I haven't heard it but I understand that this Tango album is quite excellent.

Hi Bas,
Try "Double Rainbow: The Music of Antonio Carlos Jobim" by Joe Henderson. Beautiful stuff. There's some MP3 samples here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/cus...=ATVPDKIKX0DER |

Sort of Flamenco / Fusion ... not really jazz but should appeal to jazz people.

Bebo and Cigala's album Lagrimas Negras
And if you like cuban music - look into the Buena Vista Social Club Series produced by Ry Cooder or the Afro Cuban All Stars. I also have some additional on order from Chesky - if it would ever get to me. |

Any recording by Baden Powell (Brazilian guitarist) or Rosinha de Valenca (one of his students).
The other Bossa Nova stuff already mentioned (Jobim, Getz, Gilberto etc.) is also great. You could also try "Azymuth", a brazilian band that plays somekind of jazz/funk influenced Bossa Nova

Thanks Swifty and bob4 for your suggestions...I'll check out both.
Although I have Havana Cafe by Paquito...which I don't really like...I dunno what it is...maybe the recording...something bugs me about that album. The Bossa Nova by Getz/Gilberto et al is a little too much on the safe side for me, and find it not rich enough to listen too often. Cheers, Bas |
