The last news feed I read about half hour ago ( Global News - not one of your "fake news" disseminaters ) confirmed "the LAPD cannot confirm that (he) has dies, contrary to earlier reports. This story is still developing"

But the earlier report re brain activity doesn't paint a shiny picture.

Mixed reports from found unconscious with no heartbeat to passed peacefully with his family at his side.
The police made a statement before the family were informed so retracted it hence the confusion.
It doesn't look promising though , 66 way to early R.I.P. Tom , ' Free Fallin' '

edit .. just saw the BBC news report which confirms his death.

RIP Tom Petty (October 20, 1950 - October 2, 2017)

So many musicians have left us for the past year...

Petty was found unconscious at his home, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest, early in the morning of October 2, 2017. He was taken to the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California, where he died at 8:40 pm PDT that evening.
