Anyone know about any really good modern drum'n'bass?

Just wasted my money on what I assumed was good stuff.
Bought:
David Boomah - One world many cultures (2013)
Level 2 - Red Note AP (2012)

And the older VA compilation: Drum & Bass Fiesta (1999), have had it for years as mp3, but found a legit shop that had it as flac.

About the David Boomah album:
Was going to get a single, but noticed he had an album for just a little more money. He's probably heard a lot of good 90's jungle, the sound is mostly an attempt at jungle. This album probably sounds better as 160kbit/s mp3 than as flac. The composition is good enough, would like some proper breakdowns and transitions which are clearly lacking, it's very repetitive, but good enough, the first track is decent, the rest is a slow dive. The compressor is not completely brick wall, but the limiter seems to add a lot of distortion, on some tracks there are clearly heard clicks and crackles from limiting, which makes me think the artist/producer did a VERY poor job. This could have been a real gem.

About Level 2 EP:
Clearly inspired by more classic Skynet/Stakka darker drum'n'bass, maybe techstep.
Hard compression, VERY repetitive.

About the Drum & Bass Fiesta compilation:
Nice to finally have this in flac, compression is hard, but variation is good on almost all tracks, really like that south american rhythm and vibe. Some of the samples sound a bit flat as expected, but the compositions are well thought out.

Where's the good stuff? Anyone know where you can purchase legit lossless jungle/drum'n'bass/techstep/hardstep both classic 90's and new?

Edit:
So far I have found (beatport does not count! It's so insanely expensive!):

https://www.trackitdown.net/
http://www.junodownload.com/
http://www.audiojelly.com/

What is very annoying is that all those sites provide WAV and/or AIFF. So a conversion to another lossless format with proper tag support may be required.

Anyone have any more sites to recommend? Any good artists?

Hello Banat.

Thank you for the suggestions.
Was thinking more along the lines of things like Mr. Brenn feat Tenor Fly - No more guns (Run Tingz remix) (a lot of the stuff Tenor Fly joins in is good)

LTJ Bukem have been around for a while. Makoto was interesting and new to me.

Since you mentioned LTJ Bukem I will assume you like popular stuff. Have you heard any Shy FX, T Power, UK Apache, DJ Patife, Suv, 88.3, Mampi Swift, Blackstar, DR Israel, Concord Dawn, Visionary, Decoder, Deep Roots, Skalpel, Dice, Dillinja, Lemon D, DJ Dara, Ed Rush & Optical, and so on and so forth. Most of those are well known, maybe not all of them.

This thread reminded me to order a compilation I have been missing for some years now, do not know where it went. S.O.U.R. Junglism (Sound Of the Underground Records)
One of my favorites was the last track, Urban Soul Selective feat. Viveen Wray - Shine Your Light:

Another one of my favorites from that compilation was B.L.I.M - Jeamland

I'm sure you've all heard T Power vs MK Ultra - Horny Mutant Jazz before, but here it is as well:

And let us not forget Atomic Dog - Natural Born Killaz:

banat:
Taste differs, I like liquid style as background music for driving, not for listening.

Cal:
Like those a lot, wouldn't buy an album, but would love to see them live.

tsiros:
Haven't heard any Infected Mushroom since 2009 or so, think it was the album "Converting Vegetarians", no drum'n'bass there.

Really miss the old stuff, think there is more innovation and experimentation in music when the conditions of performing are limiting the production, do not know if that makes sense to anyone else. Maybe I should phrase it differently: If you have very basic tools, you will put more effort into the work to compensate for any limitations.

One of the few drum and bass outfits I can listen to is Kosheen, I know they aint 'pure' drum and bass because they have vocals but they are worth a listen. Still not sure about their new album though.

Interesting. Will admit to being a bigger fan uf the sub genre Jungle (almost all tunes vocal), but some of the most interesting d'n'b tracks are with vocal imo.

EZ Rollers also use a lot of vocals, though I much prefer their experiments in what they call science funktion:

Science funktion, a name most likely inspired by this tune from Donald Byrd (not d'n'b):

It's turned more into a tiny sub genre mixing funk, bluegrass and good breaks, with awesome tunes like The Successful Criminals - Diamond Ring:

JMJ - Bluegrass:

Another from EZ Rollers, with vocal:

Maybe you'd have more luck searching by label.

Special k
Penetration records
Hospital records
For what its worth, dillinja n lemonD aren't new either lol.
Or my mate DJ Problemchild. Mixed by him, various old skool, dnb, jungle.

Just my 2 pence

That's more than 2p worth. Thank you.
Though:
Penetration Records = Technical Itch's label. He's the one artist there.
Special K = French Acid/Tek-Label. A total of 4 releases 98-99. The Jane darK - Basstrap is an interesting wordplay since it's a french label.
Hospital Records = Feature popular artists like London Electricity and High Contrast, big label.

Though I'd prefer it if we kept it to artists, since that is what I want, new 'choons I can purchase for my collection. Preferably albums or compilations, collecting singles is fine when you go for 12", but for archiving it's such a mess 'coz you have to remember every tune, not just a bit or two from the whole thing.

He seems all right, if I ever get over there I would go to a set.

On Krafty Kuts newest album (Let's Ride) there's also a d'n'b tune, Let It Go (feat Veronca Blacklace)

A shame it's only mediocre imo. There is one other decent tune on that album, which is COMPNDED (Edge*1) (Krafty Kuts re-kut) which is a remix of the 1992 sacred classic by the same name from Gordon Edge. So might go for that single instead.
As a side note, it's a shame krafty has disappointed me with his releases since the fantastic album Tricka Technology (like awesome funky tunes with a side order of good rhymes? this is it! WELL MADE MUSIC!), the albums Freakshow (1 great tune, The Funk Is), and the 2012 Let's Ride are not something I would recommend except those few good tunes, just not enough value for money.
