Default Why I Love Austin

Most cities put up statues of politicians and generals. The main statue in the central downtown park here is Stevie Ray Vaughan. Now joining SRV is a new 8 foot high bronze of Willie Nelson, which will stand at the corner of Lavaca Street and Willie Nelson Way. The dedication and unveiling will be next Friday 4/20. At 4:20 pm.

Our politicians and city planners have a sense of humor at least.

Not to digress from the city of Austin, but Texas in general is replete with a great musical heritage.
Music of Texas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I lived and worked in east Texas in the early '80s out in the oil patch and recall seeing/ hearing Bugs Henderson play in a little dive off Hwy 80 in Longview. That guitar was smoking. All those eight years there, never made it to Austin, but we will go there some day and are looking forward to it.

Cheers,
Terry

I just realized that 4 years ago today I departed my old home in a moving truck, bound for Austin, TX. I'll be here a while yet.

Three years so far for me. That's a cumulative 100,000 degrees.

That's why we stay in and play music
I hadn't heard that WN news. Well deserved recognition IMO, even if he isn't a native Austinite. The only other such statues I've ever seen are the Buddy Holly statue in Lubbock and Satchmo down in N'Awlins.

I don't much care for either Stevie Ray Vaughan or Willie Nelson, but Austin is a very nice city.

statues of real musicians?

Pah! Passe

Hamilton New Zealand celebrates the character Riff Raff from Rocky Horror Picture Show by having a full sized bronze of him in the middle of the main shopping area downtown....
