Ok so there are always reviewers talking about soundstage and imaging, and how each instrument has its own space, yada yada yada.
so is there a record/cd that has liner notes regarding such listening details. A map of where the instruments are placed etc?

This is exactly what Siegfried Linkwitz is most interested in. While I'm not sure if he list's particular recordings, he does have many, many pages on sound-stage and imaging. Very few others go into such depth on this subject.
